Championship News: Swansea City 1-0 Peterborough United

By on Saturday, 27th February 2010

The Swans extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches, while Swans keeper Dorus DeVries extended his clean sheet tally to 19 for the season edging closer to Swans’ all time record held by Roger Freestone.

Swansea saw the return of Ferrie Bodde and showed glimpses that he hasn’t lost his talent after playing very little football in 15 months due to injury. Bodde found Shefki Kuqi on the edge of the box with the Finnish striker shooting only for Joe Lewis to reach down low to turn the ball around the post. Peterborough didn’t set out to defend even though trio Mackail-Smith, Boyd and McLean were ruled out of the game with a virus, but failed to make much of an impact on the Swans defence. The swans always looked like scoring and it could have been a great return from Bodde as he found himself in acres of space 30 yards out and shooting only inches wide. In the 19th minute the deadlock was broken as Cotterill won the ball from Lee who then went on to bring the Welshman down in the box. Cotterill picked himself up to score the penalty low into the corner. Things went from good to bad for the swans as they lost both Darren Pratley and Ferrie Bodde to injury. Although the injuries Swans looked like getting a second before half time only for the shot to be cleared off the line.

Dyer turned provider early in the second half as he crossed for Kuqi only for the player to blast over from eight yards out. The Posh could have scored on the hour as Frecklington headed over from a cross as they pushed for an equaliser. The Swans were still pushing on looking to score a second as ten minutes from time Trundle had a shot saved from the edge of the box. It was Peterborough who had the last chance of the game as Dickinson’s shot took a deflection and over the bar.
