A dull game at the Britannia eventually came to life late on as Stoke stole through to the 6th Round.
Not until the 79th minute was the deadlock broken and Stoke it was who broke it when Dave Kitson lashed home from the edge of the area into the bottom left corner. And there was little time to catch breath when City drew level, Craig Bellamy getting the shot away after Adebayor had set him up inside the Stoke area.
Adebayor then went from hero to zero when he was sent off for lashing out at Ryan Shawcross who had been trying to harry the big striker off the ball, referee Steve Bennett showing no hesitation in producing a controversial straight red.
From there, only one outcome was likely as a yet-again lacklustre City went behind for the second time on the night in extra-time when Ryan Shawcross nodded home from close range, the victory sealed when Tuncay nodded home from a trademark Rory Delap long-throw into the box that Shay Given failed to deal with.
Attendance: 21,813
