Manchester City won at Stamford Bridge today to go into 4th in the league while defeat for Chelsea leaves them 1 point ahead of Manchester United and 6 points ahead of Arsenal who have a game in hand.
It was a tale of two’s as Lampard, Tevez and Bellamy got two goals each and Chelsea receiving two red cards. All the eyes were looking at Wayne Bridge and John Terry as they met for the first time, and with Terry stretching his hand to shake his hand, which was shunned by Wayne Bridge.
It was Chelsea, who started the better team as Man City seemed happy to invite pressure, and Chelsea were unlucky not to take the lead as Malouda, Joe Cole, Drogba could have scored and Vincent Kompany could have even scored an own goal. It was Chelsea who took the lead five minutes from time. A precise pass made by Joe Cole saw Frank Lampard scoring with a drilled shot from 16 yards out. It took Man City only four minutes to reply as a poor John Obi Mikel headed back pass saw Tevez latch onto the ball and while holding off Terry and Carvalho saw his shot trickle into the back of the net.
Man City could have taken the lead before half time but Lescott couldn’t score after Bellamy found him with his free kick. And it was Bellamy who gave City the lead not long into the second half. Mikel was dispossessed in a Chelsea attack, the ball was given to Bellamy who went charging down the left flank, got into the box and managed to slot the ball past Hilario. Chelsea didn’t look like creating much to get the equaliser and even had Drogba, Anelka, Sturridge and Kalou on the field. It was Man City who got the next goal as Barry was brought down in the box by Belletti –who got sent off- and Tevez scored from the spot. Chelsea were then reduced to 9 men after Ballack was sent off for a second yellow card, Man City then sealed then win after Bellamy tapped in unmarked from a pass by ex Chelsea player Wright-Phillips. The action didn’t stop there as Chelsea scored a late penalty after Anelka was brought down by Barry and Lampard scored from the resulting spot kick.
