Premier League Results- Saturday 28th of February

Birmingham City 1-0 Wigan Athletic

Birmingham will be pleased with a win as they look to keep pushing on in the league, and maybe sneak a European qualification finish. This was a match of very little chances on target as Birmingham had 5 and Wigan only had 2. But it was Birmingham who made their chance pay as James McFadden scored a penalty after Fahey was brought down in the box by Mario Melchiot.

Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Bolton won this match at the Reebok Stadium but made it hard for themselves as they missed several chances in the first half, and scored into stoppage time at the end of the first half. It was Lee who kept the ball in play and played it inside the six yard box for Zat Knight to tap in. This was Bolton’s first Premiership goal in over 500 minutes. Wolves did test the Bolton goalkeeper with 4 attempts on target but couldn’t score. Bolton move out of the relegation zone with the win while Wolves avoid dropping in the relegation zone on goal difference.

Burnley 1-2 Portsmouth

Both teams scored only for both goals to be ruled out for offside. Portsmouth then took the lead as Piquionne tapped in at the back post after a low ball by Danny Webber. Burnley equalised when a long ball up field by Jensen was flicked on by Fletcher and Paterson just flicked a lob over James to level the match. Portsmouth were awarded two penalties in the second half, the first one saved by Jensen from O’Hara and the second time Yebda stepped up to give Portsmouth the win. While Rocha was sent off late on in the match after receiving two yellow cards.

Chelsea 2-4 Manchester City

It was a tale of two’s at Stamford Bridge as there were three goal scorers getting two goals each and two players were sent off. Lampard opened the scoring for Chelsea before Tevez equalised to make it 1-1 at half time. Bellamy scored after half time soon followed by a Tevez penalty and then Bellamy finished Chelsea off late on. Lampard scored a penalty late on as Chelsea ended the match with 9 men after Ballack and Belletti both got sent off.

Stoke City 1-3 Arsenal

A match marred by a massive injury to Aaron Ramsey as the payer suffered a horrendous injury 2 years and same weekend that a similar injury to Eduardo‘s against Birmingham. Arsenal didn’t learn their lesson from before and conceded early on from a Delap throw in as Pugh headed in unmarked at the back post. Bendtner scored a fantastic header before half time as both teams went in at 1-1. Shawcross got sent off after the tackle on Ramsey as play was delayed for 7 minutes. Arsenal were then given a penalty as a Pugh got punished for a handball, which Fabregas scored. And it was Fabregas who set up Vermaelen late on for Arsenal to get a tough win.
