Fulham and Liverpool both suffered defeats this evening away from home. Fulham travelled to Italian giants Juventus while Liverpool travelled to French side Lille.
Juventus 3-1 Fulham
Although Fulham lost this evening they managed to get an important away goal. Fulham didn’t get the best of starts as Juventus took the lead after 9 minutes. Diego with a corner ball and Legrottaglie nodded the ball into the back of the net. In the 25th minute Zebina scored the second goal with a powerful strike from 25 yards out. Fulham brought one back when Etuhu’s shot took a wicked deflection, only for Juventus to restore their 2 goal advantage just before half-time when David Trezeguet reacted quickest from the ball hitting the post.
Juventus will now travel to Craven Cottage for their second leg where Fulham are hard to beat and may have confidence in themselves to try and get something out of the game.
Lille 1-0 Liverpool
Liverpool’s poor season took another blow today as they lost to Lille away from home. Liverpool’s performances recently have lacked ambition from the players and rumours were that Rafa Benitez called a meeting to discuss the lack of performances from the players. Liverpool had their chances but Lille goalkeeper Landreau managed to keep out Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres. It was Lille who took the lead and it came in the 85th minute. It was Eden Hazard’s goal from a free kick that floated into the box and managed to go into the top corner that gives Lille the lead going into the second leg.
