Cardiff took a 2-0 lead into half time and manage to hold on to a 2-1 win after having Gyepes sent off half way through the second half.
The play-off clash between these sides was going to be a tough clash and it was Cardiff who got the first goal. Kelvin Etuhu managed to get a shot on goal but Chris Weale’s save fell straight to Ross McCormack who had the simplest of jobs of tapping Cardiff into the lead.
The game didn’t see many chances after the goal as the majority of it was battled out in the midfield. The only chances in the 20 minutes after the goal fell to McCormack who saw his shot saved by the keeper, while Waghorn saw his shot clear the bar and Gallagher forcing Marshall into his first save.
Cardiff had a few more chances before half-time as substitute Matthews saw his shot go over the bar while McCormack forced Weale into a save. Cardiff did get a second before half-time as Wittingham scored for the home side after Gavin Rae set up the in-form winger.
Leicester came out fighting in the second half and within 6 minutes second half substitute Steve Howard got a goal back for the away side as he scored from inside the box, low into the middle of the goal.
There weren’t many chances to talk about in the second half with the only chance to mention was McCormack testing Weale with a free kick.
Cardiff were then given a blow as Gabor Gyepes was sent off for bringing down Kermogant as he was through on goal, and the referee didn’t hesitate to sending off the defender, who will now miss a few crucial game for Cardiff, one of which being the South Wales derby on Saturday evening.
Leicester looked to push on as they created more chances with Cardiff having made all 3 subs before Gyepes was sent off with Ritchie Wellens forcing Marshall into making a couple of saves.
Leicester kept on pushing for the equaliser but were unable to capitalise with a one man advantage. Cardiff are now within 5 points for Nottingham Forest – a team they play soon-, while Leicester stay 6th and stay 4 points ahead of Blackpool in 7th.
