Mike Dean was a target for fans on the weekend as fans tried to hit the referee with coins. It was around this time last year that Dean was hit by a coin in the South Wales derby, although the coin may not have been intended for him in that match, it did strike him across the head.
Mike Dean was a target in the Burnley game after he awarded a controversial penalty to Blackburn, a penalty which was scored and ended up being the winner.
The match was overshadowed by violence not only to Mike Dean but others also. The police arrested over 40 people with several police officers and stewards being taken to hospital after clashes at Turf Moor.
A police spokesman said the following on the matter “A minority of fans chose not to behave. We had to deal with disorder inside and outside the ground.”
