Fernando Torres gets a double as Liverpool get the win to lift them to 5th in the league and try to close the gap between them and Tottenham Hotspur.
It didn’t take long for Liverpool to get the lead as Fernando Torres scored a fantastic goal when a long kick up the pitch by Reina fell to Torres who cut in from out wide to shoot into the top corner.
Liverpool pushed on from this and saw chances from Torres, Agger (twice), Gerrard and Mascherano’s long drive headed away from Richardson.
Gordon was in some great form as he kept Liverpool out on many occasions but was beaten gain in the 32nd minute. Glen Johnson took a touch to give him a yard of extra space to get a shot off which took a wicked deflection off Michael Turner’s leg and went into the goal as Gordon had already committed himself diving the other way.
Liverpool were dominant in this match as the limited Sunderland to 2 shots on target the whole match and only 2 shots off target.
As Sunderland were frustrated with their lack of chances Liverpool kept on pushing and come the 60th minute they got their 3rd goal of the afternoon.
Glen Johnson played Torres through and the Spaniard just controlled the ball and lifted in over the sliding defender and advancing goal keeper.
