The Professional Footballers’ Association announced on Sunday night in their annual dinner awards that Wayne Rooney was crowned PFA Player of the Year, while James Milner won Young player of the Year.
Rooney, 24, has scored 34 goals this season and is currently set to miss the title run in with an injury pipped Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Tevez to the award. Rooney said the following on winning the award “It’s a great feeling to win because it’s voted for by the players. It’s a great honour and I’m really proud.”
While Young Player of the Year award winner James Milner said the following “I’ve been moved into the middle and that suits me as it helps me influence the game a bit more. Maybe sometimes wide right you want to influence the game but you just can’t get yourself into it.”
In the awards ceremony the teams of the year award was also announced for the Premiership, Coca-Cola Championship, Coca-Cola League 1 and Coca-Cola League 2;
