A goal in the 116th minute by Diego Forlan wins Atletico Madrid the Europa League.
Fulham’s brave attempt to win the Europa League was ended by former Manchester United player Diego Forlan with minutes to go before the match would have gone to penalties.
It was Forlan who gave Atletico Madrid the lead in the 32nd minute when the striker poached a close range finish. Fulham kept on pushing as they have been throughout the tournament and 5 minutes later they came up with an equaliser. Welshman Simon Davies volleying at the back post to get Fulham level again.
With the match going into extra time Atletico may have felt they could have won in easily as Forlan hit the post and Sergio Aguero poking the ball wide when it seemed easier to score.
But, Diego Forlan who had a poor time at Manchester United seems to enjoy scoring against English teams after knocking out Liverpool in the previous round, scoring with 4 minutes to go in extra time to win the Europa League.
Although Fulham will be dissapointed, they have achieved so much this season and can look back and deem this season a very sucessful season although missing out on the Europa League.
