England’s 23 man squad was announced this afternoon by manager Fabio Capello. The team was due to be announced this morning but was delayed as it seemed that Gareth Barry’s fitness test went on for longer than predicted, and with Capello seeming to wanting to take the Manchester City midfielder, the test results were looked through in detail to see if the midfielder would be fit to play.
It has come as a surprise that Theo Walcott has been omitted from the squad as many thought he would be going to the World Cup as he can play on the wing and can also operate as a striker if needed. Adam Johnson has also been left out with many surprised as he is the only natural left footed midfielder in the 30 man squad. Other players who have been left out of the squad are Darren Bent, Leighton Baines, Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson.
The 23 man squad is listed below
