It is being reported that Roy Hodgson is to be named Liverpool’s new manager in the next few days.
Liverpool were apparently granted permission to speak to the 62-year-old by current club Fulham and that a deal is set to be done to compensate the Craven Cottage outfit to fill the void left by Rafa Benitez’s sacking earlier in the month.
Hodgson had been one of the names touted as a possible replacement for Italian Fabio Capello following England’s dismal World Cup showing and their embarassing exit on Sunday.
The 2009/10 LMA Manager of the Year has been at Fulham since December 2007 and was immediately tasked with the seemingly impossible task of keeping Fulham in the Premier League.
He successfully did so and has set about a revival in the London club’s fortunes, last season competing in the final of the Europa League only to fall at the last after seeing off the likes of Juventus and German champions Wolfsburg along the way.
Hodgson has previously enjoyed managerial spells at Inter Milan, Blackburn and the Swiss national team whom he guided to the last 16 in the 1994 World Cup in America.
