The hosts South Africa return to kick off the second round of group games and will be keen to improve on their reasonable showing against Mexico, buoyed by a screamer scored by Siphiwe Tshabalala they will take confidence from the result despite being second best for most of the game. Tipped to do fairly well as the host nation similarly to South Korea four years ago, South Africa will be slightly disappointed that they could only hold out for a draw despite a considerable home advantage. Uruguay will have similar feelings and will rue missing the opportunity of sneaking a win against a far below par France in one of the most mediocre games of the tournament so far.
The only inspiration for Uruguay came from a typically industrious Diego Forlan however the lacklustre perfromance of his compatriots left too much work for him to become a real threat, they can however, take credit for the fact they held out admirably with 10 men without conceding. Friday’s sprited performance along with the speed and desire shown by the South Africans means this game could prove to be an interesting contest. It wouldn’t be a great surprise if South Africa step up their game now the first game jitters are out of the way.
South Africa could sneak a decent win if they continue to show the same spark, William Hill has this at 3.25 -1, on the other hand Uruguay managed to prevent Anelka and Henry from reaching the back of the net and could be prone to contributing to another slightly dull encounter if they coninue in the same vein, 3.25 – 1 for a draw at Stan James could be a decent option.
