Watch Highlights of the Netherlands vs Slovakia on the 28.06.2010.
The Dutch started the strongest of the two teams with Robin VanPersie forcing the Slovakia goalkeeper to make a save. And it didn’t take long before the Dutch took the lead through the fit again Arjen Robben. The ball played over the top for Robben to chase and the winger cut inside before shooting low into the bottome corner.
The Dutch came out in the second half looking to extend their lead in the match and Robben nearly did so as his shot from outside the area was saved well by the Slovakia goalkeeper, who minutes later saved another shot using his face to deny the Dutch. Slovakia though were slowly getting back into the game and in the 66th minute Stoch forced the Dutch goalkeeper into making a great save and soon after Vittek was through on goal one-one-one with the goalie and Stekelenburg made a great save to deny the Slovakians an equaliser.
Sneijder made it 2-0 in the 84th minute as a quick free kick saw Dirk Kuyt beating the goalkeeper to the ball to lay off Sneijder who just tapped the ball into the net.
Slovakia did manage to get a goal back though from the penalty spot in the 93rd minute. The goalkeeper bringing down a Slovakia player and Vittek scored the last goal of Slovakia’s World Cup campaign.
The Netherlands will now face either Brazil or Chile who play tonight at 7:30. Highlights of that match can be seen here later on this evening.
