USA beat Algeria this afternoon to ensure that they finish top of Group C.
USA missed several chances most noteably Jozy Altidore deciding to smash the ball high over the bar from a few yards out when it seemed so much easier to tap the ball past the defender on the line.
It seemed that neither USA or Algeria would get a goal and that both teams would miss out on progressing from the group, but USA had other ideas.
Late on in the game Landon Donovan played through Jozy Altidore who saw his shot parried by the goalkeeper, the ball then falling kindly for Donovan to place his shot into the bottom corner.
The win for USA ensures that they finish top of group C and will find out this evening who they will face in the next round.
