Trabzonspor 1-2 Liverpool
Liverpool secured their spot in the Europa League group stages after a late showing against Trabzonspor. The Turkish side took the lead and drew level on aggregate when Teofilo Gutierrez slotted the ball into the back of the net from a Gustavo Colman shot.
Liverpool didnt really look like scoring, but in the 84th minute a Glen Johnson was turned into the back of his own net by Giray Kacar to give Liverpool the crucial away goal. Liverpool then added a second minutes later when Daniel Pacheco’s shot was parried into the path of Dirk Kuyt who slotted into the back of the net.
Aston Villa 2-3 Rapid Vienna
Gabby Agbonlahor opened the scoring for Villa on his return from injury with a clinical finish in the first half. Rapid Vienna got an equaliser through Atdhe Nuhiu before Emile Heskey scored to restore Villa’s lead after Petrov missed a penalty. Their lead barely lasted a minute as Sonnleitner heading them an equaliser before Gartler ensured Villa missed out on the chance of qualifying.
Manchester City 2-0 FC Timisoara
City took the lead just before half-time through Shaun Wright-Phillips when the winger was put through by Patrick Viera and finishing low from 8 yards out. City kept on dominating the match and doubled their lead in the second half when young defender Boyata headed in from close range from a David Silva corner.
