Tonight saw the return of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football with Manchester United hosting newly promoted Newcastle United. Before the match Sir Alex Ferguson warned his side to be aware of Newcastle as they would be no pushovers although they have just been promoted.

For the first 20-30 minutes Newcastle were no pushovers as Kevin Nolan was doing his best of man marking Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes to ensure the midfielder wouldn’t create anything.

It didn’t take long for United to get their first goal though as Newcastle tried to play it out from the back before United had the ball with Berbatov firing past Steve Harper from the left of the six yard box.

United doubled their lead through Darren Fletcher minutes before half-time as he recieved the ball inside the six yard box from Wayne Rooney then turning and shooting past the Newcastle goalkeeper.

United looked very comfortable and Newcastle’s Andy Carroll wasted Newcastle’s best chance of the game.

With twenty minutes to go Ryan Giggs was brought on and it wasn’t long before the Welshman got his first goal of the season. Paul Scholes reciving the ball in the centre and playing a diagonal ball into the box for Giggs to volley across goal to give United a comfortable victory.
