Newcastle were playing their first Premier League game of the season at St James’ Park today and looking for their first win since returning to the Premiership.

It didnt get off to a good start either as Aston Vila were awarded a penalty, fortunately for Newcastle though John Carew blasted the penalty over the bar.

Minutes later Aston Villa were punished by the penalty miss as Joey Barton have Newcastle the lead after 12 minutes. Barton reciving the ball from Gutierrez before shooting from 25 yards out past Brad Friedel.

On the half out mark Kevin Nolan doubled Newcastle United’s lead. Carroll knocking the ball back for Kevin Nolan who saw his first header parried back to him by Friedel to knock the ball past him at the second time of asking.

Aston Villa’s day went from bad to worse as Carroll scored three minutes later to make it 3-0. Joey Barton whipping in a corner, Williamson heading the ball down for Carroll in the box and the striker hit it first time past Brad Friedel.

Newcastle didnt look like they were going to stop there and in the 67th minute Carroll got his second and Newcastle’s fourth. Joey Barton challenging for the ball and helps it in the area with the ball falling to Carroll who volleyed the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Newcastle then added a fifth of the game as Kevin Nolan hooked the ball into the back of the net. Newcastle cross the ball in from a corner with substitute Shola Ameobi heading it back accross goal for Nolan to score.

In the dying minutes of the game Carroll got his hat trick as Xisco feads the ball through to Andy Carroll who takes a touch before slotting the ball past Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
