Watch Premiership Highlights of Stoke v Tottenham Hotspur on 21.08.2010
A Gareth Bale double and a controversial goal that wasn’t given denied Stoke a share of the spoils at The Britannia Stadium.
Bale had opened the scoring for Spurs having bundled over the line from a yard with just 19 minutes on the clock but Stoke hit back almost immediately when Ricardo Fuller poked in the reply 6 minutes later.
But for all their endeavour Stoke failed to capitalise and a Bale stunner from 25 yards gave Spurs the lead once more.
But it might not have meant the winner had Jon Walters’ effort on 86 minutes been disallowed by referee Chris Foy despite the ball clearly crossing the line in vain of Peter Crouch’s efforts to deny its passage.
It leaves the Potters pointless from their first two games, though on this evidence they will again cause opposition sides plenty of problems this season.
And as for Tottenham, they will hope their defence – and luck – holds just as well when they host Swiss minnows Young Boys at the Lane on Wednesday.
Attendance: 27,243
Referee: Foy
