Former Villa midfielder Craig Gardener won all three points for Birmingham at home against Blackburn Rovers after going behind.
After a poor and dull opening to the game, Morten Gamst Pedersen forced an excellent save from new signing Ben Foster from the penalty spot, but made amends later when he teed up Steven N’Zonzi for his headed finish.
However Birmingham and Gardener had other plans and the midfielder got the final nicked touch on a James McFadden volley to level the scores.
And with twenty minutes on the clock, Gardener clinched the win with a piledriver from 25 yards to keep Birmingham’s unbeaten start to the season intact with a little help from ‘keeper Ben Foster.
