Northern Ireland make a fantastic start in their bid to qualify for the European Championships in 2012 as they beat Slovenia by 1-0.

Many fans will be shocked that Northern Ireland were able to win this game as Slovenia were very dominating throughout the match.

The hosts squandered many chances in the first half with Milivoje Novakovic and Zlatan Ljubijankic missing Slovenia’s best chances, with both also being a real threat to the Northern Ireland defence.

Slovenia also dominated the second half and it came as a surprise when Northern Ireland took the lead. Craig Cathcart managed to get a cross into the box and substitute Corey Evans managed to turn the ball into the back of the net at the backpost.
