Championship new-boys Leeds United came from behind to earn their first point of the season at The City Ground against pre-season promotion contenders Nottingham Forest.

The Yorkshiremen did it the hard way though as Forest took an early lead through Dexter Blackstock’s header from a Chris Gunter cross after just nine minutes.

Robert Earnshaw would then hit the post for Forest as they pushed to extend their lead however Leeds slowly worked themselves back into the game.

And eventually their hard work paid off on 34 minutes when Lloyd Sam glanced a header past Lee Camp from a Johnson cross.

Neil Kilkenny could have stolen all three points for the visitors with a late shot however it sailed agonisingly wide and the spoils were shared.

And Paul Anderson could have given Forest the lead after Sam’s equaliser but his chested effort was easily kicked free by Kasper Schmeichel when either side of him would have seen a definite goal.

Tempers ran high during the game and threatened to boil over late on when Gunter and Sanchez Watt of Leeds clashed.

However a point a piece sees both teams lift out of the bottom three in the embryonic league table.

The match was built up to be a great match and a great advertisment to the Championship, and the first half didnt dissapoint with all goals coming in the first half.
Chopra gave Cardiff the lead with a great right footed finish across the goal from outside the box, but his goal didnt last long as Charlie Adam scored a wonderful free-kick to bring Blackpool level. Cardiff once again took the lead through Joe Ledley with another fine finish, before Gary Taylor-Fletcher levelled for the seasiders for the second time in the game. Blackpool got the winner just before the half time whistle as Brett Ormerod prodded the ball home after a goal line scramble.

Cardiff City beat Leicester City 1-0 at the Walkers Stadium to give them an advantage going into the second leg at the Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday.
The match started slowly with most of the play in midfield. The first half created very little chances with Michael Chopra hitting the post from a narrow angle for Cardiff and Jay Bothroyd heading just over from 6 yards out. Leicester on the other hand didnt really create many.
The second half started much better with both teams looking to grab that vital goal. There weren’t many chances created until Cardiff were awarded a free-kick with 15 minutes to go. Up stepped Peter Wittingham from the corner of the box and swung his shot towards goal, and the ball going in off the inside of the post. Leicester seemed to kick on from this and substitute Matty Fryatt squandered a great chance as he was one-on-one with keeper David Marshall but shot straight at the keeper.
Leicester pushed on looking for the equaliser but couldn’t find the back of the net with Marshall making a great save in the final seconds of injury time.
Cardiff will now take a 1-0 lead going into the second leg on Wednesday, and will no doubt be favourites to progress to Wembley.
