Blackpool got the better of their fellow promoted rivals West Brom with a highly entertaining victory at a packed Bloomfield Road.

The game was barely four minutes old when Luke Varney found himelf through on goal with a delightful pass however was wrongly adjudged offside before the evening took a definitive turn minutes later.

The Baggies were caught napping when Charlie Adam sprayed a wonderful pass to DJ Campbell who stole into the area however was brought down by Pablo Ibanez to win a penalty. Ibanez was given his marching orders and Adam stepped up to coolly give the Tangerines the lead and with a man advantage tore straight back into West Brom.

And on the half hour mark West Brom pressed the self-destruct button as Gonzalo Jara produced an awful two-footed lunge on Varney to see a straight red leaving the visitors down to nine men and all but out of the contest.

However they survived until half time at only a goal down and had pressed as hard as they could against Ian Holloway’s men, and their resistance at the other end lasted 15 minutes into the second period when David Vaughan chipped a defender, Grandin swept in a cross for Varney who slide in with ease.

But with ten minutes left, the Baggies got one back and forced an entertaining and breathtaking finale when Jerome Thomas tormented down the left and forced Gilks to save at feet only for the ball to wriggle free to Mulumbu who lashed home into the top right corner.

Despite a last ditch save from Carson to deny Blackpool an easier end, and going up to the Blackpool box for a corner, the visitors were unable to force the equaliser they so gallantly pursued, leaving them in sixth to Blackpool’s ninth on a highly creditable performance from both sides on the seaside.

A late goal from Maxi Rodriguez was enough for Liverpool to beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0 at the Reebok Stadium.

Liverpool had plenty of chances to score in the first half with the out of form Fernando Torres missing two chances to open the scoring.

Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard also came close but his shot went wide while Bolton’s Stuart Holden had his volleyed well saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

There was some bad news for Liverpool fans as Joe Cole was forced off with a hamstring injury.

The away side kept pushing for a goal and Kyrgiakos and Maxi Rodriguez went close to giving them the lead in the second half.

The home side pushed for the winner late on but it was Liverpool who got the goal. A flick from Torres went through a Bolton defenders legs allowing Maxi Rodriguez to poke the ball into the back of the net.

After the game Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle felt that his side should have been awarded two penalties in the game.

Liverpool now climb to 12th in the Premiership while Bolton Wanderers are 10th.

With this game being a derby it was set to be a very fiesty affair, and it was from the beginning with both Tiote and Andy Carroll getting booked within the first 15 minutes.

It was Sunderland though who had the first real chance of the game as they broke with Danny Welbeck after a Newcastle attack and if the striker looked to his left he would have found strike partner Darren Bent free in the area but Welbeck took a shot which defelected wide for a corner.

Newcastle also came close soon after as Andy Carroll was racing through on goal only for Bardsley to come sliding in as Carroll was about to shoot.

In the 25th minute the first goal of the game was scored as Kevin Nolan opened the scoring to give Newcastle the lead. A corner deep into the box saw the ball nodded down in the area and Kevin Nolan scoring with a bicycle kick into the roof of the net.

Newcastle doubled their lead 8 minutes later with Kevin Nolan grabbing his second goal of the game. A shot blocked by Sunderland saw the ball fall to Andy Carroll who went for an overhead kick with the ball falling to Kevin Nolan free in the box who slotted the ball calmly past the goalkeeper.

Deep into added time in the first half Newcastle were awarded a penalty when Jonas Guttierez was brought down in the box by Nedum Onuoha. Shola Ameboi scored the penalty and sent Newcastle 3-0 up at half-time.

Just 10 minutes into the second half Sunderland’s chances of forming a comeback were given a huge blow as Titus Bramble was sent off for the away side. His foul on Andy Carroll was shown a red card by referee Phil Dowd.

With 20 minutes remaining Newcastle made it 4-0. Danny Simpson crossing into the box saw Andy Carroll header smash against the crossbar and the ball falling to Shola Ameboi who smashed the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the game.

Five minutes later Newcastle made it 5-0. Joey Barton with a crossing into the box from a corner, Shola Ameobi flicking the ball on for Kevin Nolan who was free in the box and heading in his hat-trick.

With 90 minutes on the clock Sunderland grabbed a consolation goal. A corner headed at goal by Mensah but before Krul could collect the ball Darren Bent got ahead of him and tapped the ball into the net.

Aston Villa and Birmingham City play out a goalless draw as Birmingham City end a run of six straight derby day defeats.

The first half was a very poor. Birmingham City’s Craig Gardner and Keith Fahey both going close to openeing the scoring.

The second half livened up a little with Aston Villa looking the more likely to score. Villa subsitute Barry Bannan saw his curling shot saved by Birmingham goalkeeper Ben Foster with Ciaran Clark heading wide soon after.

Aston Villa pushed hard late on to try and get the winning goal with Ashley Young seeing his shot strike the post, but Birmngham City held on for the point.

Villa climb to 12th in the Premiership with Brimingham in 13th before the games at St James’ Park and the Reebok Stadium.

Manchester United beat Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford with goals from Vidic and Nani.

United opened the scoring when Vidic headed in a Nani free-kick. While Nani hit the crossbar soon afterwards.

The second goal was controversial when Gomes rolled the ball out for a free kick after Nani had handled the ball. The officials didn’t penalise Nani for the handball and he was able to double United’s lead with 5 minutes remaining.

Tottenham havnt won at Old Trafford now since 1989.

Wolverhampton produce a shock result in the Premier League as they beat Manchester City 2-1 at Molineux.

It was the away side who took the lead as the referee awarded them a penalty when David Silva was brought down in the area by Richard Stearman. Up stepped Emmanuel Adebayor who converted the penalty.

Seven minutes later (30th minute) Wolverhampton grabbed an equaliser. Nenad Milijas with a low 20 yard drive which beat Joe Hart.

The game was even at half time, and twelve minutes into the second half Wolves grabbed what turned out to be the winning goal. Kevin Dolye’s shot parried by Joe Hart saw the ball fall to Welsh international David Edwards who calmly side footed the ball into the back of the net.

Manchester City pushed late on but couldn’t break down the Wolves defence.

Two goals from Fulham’s Clint Dempsey in the first half was enough for Fulham to beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

Fulham took the lead on the half hour mark when Carlos Salcido’s excellent cross was met by Clint Dempsey who powered his header into the back of the net.

With a minute to go until half time Fulham doubled their lead. This time Chris Barid crossing from the right hand side and Clint Dempsey scoring his second of the game with a volley.

There were very little chances in the second half with Roberto Martinez’s side looking very lacklusture and hardly threatened Mark Hughes’ Fulham.

Everton beat Stoke City 1-0 thanks to Yakubu’s first goal of the season at Goodison Park.

Stoke thought they had taken the lead when Tuncay scored for the visitors but referee Lee Probert ruled the goal out as he felt that Tuncay had fouled Leighton Baines in the build up to the goal.

And with 23 minutes remaining in the game Everton grabbed the winning goal. Tim Cahill seeing his shot hit the upright which saw Yakubu control the ball neatly before smashing the ball into the roof of the net to grab his first of the season and the winner.

Despite a very good performance from Blackburn Rovers it was Ivanovic’s late goal which gave Chelsea all three points to stay top of the Premier League.

The hosts dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead. Diouf’s teasing cross into the box saw Benjani score.

Five minutes before half time though Anelka grabbed an equaliser. A sweeping move from Chelsea was enough to see Anelka score with a fine finish.

Although Blackburn played well and very nearly scored through Jason Roberts, it was Chelsea who grabbed the winner. Yuri Zhirkov crossing the ball into the box and Ivanovic rising the highest to nod Chelsea into the lead.

Arsenal beat West Ham United 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Alex Song with Arsenal being denied several times by West Ham’s Robert Green.

It was a very even half with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas seeing his shot repelled by Robert Green with a superb reaction save.

The Gunners upped their game in the second half and when Arsene Wenger brought on winger Theo Walcott the home side looked more likely to grab a goal.

Robert Green saving well in the second half from shots from Fabregas and Walcott while Samir Nasri hit the crossbar and Walcott hitting the post.

The game looked like ending in a draw but with two minutes remaining Arsenal took the lead. Gael Clichy with a cross into the box and Alex Song nodded Arsenal into the lead to give Arsenal a dramatic victory.
