Tottenham Hotspur fans were dissapointed last night as defender Michael Dawson came off injured during England’s international match against Bulgaria.

The defender was taken to hospital and had a scan today which revealed that he has sprained his left knee ligament and will be out for 6-8 weeks.

This injury will rule Dawson out of three UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures and several Barclays Premier League fixtures.

It is understood that England manager Fabio Capello will not call up a replacement for Michael Dawson.

In his squad already Fabio Capello has Matthew Upson, Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill. It is also understood that Jagielka will have one of the starting berths in the next England game. With Gary Cahill replacing Dawson with half an hour to go in the game Capello may decide to give the Bolton Wanderers a starting berth, but could also team up Upson with Jagielka.

Watch England’s opening qualifying game aginst Bulgaria in the EURO 2012 qualifiers on 03.09.2010.

England ease past oponents Bulgaria as they win 4-0 with Jermain Defore scoring a hat-trick. Some bad news for England though as Michael Dawson came off injured in the second half with a knee injury, and Defoe also brought off after he injured himself as he scored his third goal.

England fans didnt have to wait long before they were celebrating again after a dissapointing World Cup campaign as England opened the scoing before 3 minutes. Ashley Cole with the pass and Tottenham striker Jermain Defore crashing the ball into the back of the net.

Although Joe Hart didn’t have much to do throughout the game, when he was needed the Manchester City goalkeeper showed Fabio Capello that he may have made the wrong choice at the World Cup as he pulled off some fantastic saves to ensure England kept a clean sheet.

Jermain Defore added a second goal after some superb football from England with Wayne Rooney playing Defoe through on goal to hit the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Manchester City winger Adam Johnson was brought on for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott and it didn’t take him to make his impact as he went close with a shot going just wide, and minutes later he cut inside and smashed the ball past the keeper, who should have done better.

England made it 4-0 with minutes to go before full-time as Jermain Defoe was played through on goal yet again, and slotted the ball through the advancing goalkeepers legs.

Northern Ireland make a fantastic start in their bid to qualify for the European Championships in 2012 as they beat Slovenia by 1-0.

Many fans will be shocked that Northern Ireland were able to win this game as Slovenia were very dominating throughout the match.

The hosts squandered many chances in the first half with Milivoje Novakovic and Zlatan Ljubijankic missing Slovenia’s best chances, with both also being a real threat to the Northern Ireland defence.

Slovenia also dominated the second half and it came as a surprise when Northern Ireland took the lead. Craig Cathcart managed to get a cross into the box and substitute Corey Evans managed to turn the ball into the back of the net at the backpost.

Recalled goalkeeper Allan McGregor made a good save to deny Saulius Mikoliunas, while at the other end Barry Robson was denied a goal twice as Zydrunas Karcemarskas blocked both shots.

Scotland had the last chance of the first half as Stephen McManus saw his volley go just wide of the post.

After the break it was Lithuania who were the most dangerous sides, but it was Scotland who had the best chances as both Kenny Miller and Steven Naismith failed to score.

Wales and Montenegro started the match lively with both teams having chances on goal. Both teams created several chances to score with the first real chance coming in the 25th minute when Montenegro created a gap in the Wales defence, but the shot was a poor one.

The opening goal was scored in the 30th minute as Montenegro opened the scoring through Vucinic. It was a simple goal as Vucinic got passed James Collins easily and the player cutting inside the box to fire past Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey to take the lead.

Wales responded quite well to the goal and striker Steve Morison felt he should have been given a penalty after being man-handled in the box but the referee waved away his claims. Wales very nearly scored in the 38th minute when Gareth Bale’s charging run down the left saw his cross the ball low into the box for Craig Bellamy but a Montenegro defender managed to get his heel to the ball diverting the path slightly before Bellamy blasted wide.

Wales very nearly equalised after the hour mark as Steve Morison headed down from a corner which saw Ashley Williams running onto the ball and grabbing a touch, but unfortunately for the defender the goalkeeper managed to tip the ball over before it could drop under the crossbar.

With the game going into the last 10 minutes Wales had two great opportunities to score. Bellamy running in from wide receiving the ball and shooting forcing the keeper into forcing a corner, and from the corner Bellamy found himself free but a poor header from him as it went straight to the keeper.

Minutes later Wales hit the crossbar. Sam Ricketts wining the ball out wide and crossing the ball for Simon Church who saw his header hit the crossbar. Montenegro then forced a save from Wayne Hennessey as he saves low down to his right from a shot from 25 yards out.

Montenegro very nearly scored again as a player finds himself with a free header but could only header it wide. A minute later Wales scored, but it was dissallowed as goalscorer Simon Church was offside when Robert Earnshaw shot at goal.
